Melanie Rodriguez - Reflection 2

Welcome back, blog! Our second presentation was for the “Elections Matter” project. For this project, we each had a topic having to do with the 2024 presidential elections and we each had to do research on our topic/subtopics to create an informative research project to present to our class and for the school. Considering this was our second speech, the expectations were much higher. The performance of each group was heavily improved. Our class and the school was heavily informed on each topic and its importance and impact on the 2024 presidential elections. via GIPHY Group 1 Group 1 presented last this time, with an eye catching subject on immigration policies. They provided in depth information on each political party and their views on immigration policies. In their project, they included statistics and even one-on-one interviews about the topic. Although their presentation was extremely and factual, the members in group 1 still look down for majority of the speech, making th...

My group, Group 2, focused on gender equality and its connection to the upcoming elections. We began by discussing the history of gender equality, highlighting the proposal of women’s suffrage in Congress in 1919 and its ratification in 1920, which granted women the right to vote. This milestone was made possible by figures like Susan B. Anthony, who dedicated 40 years to fighting for women's suffrage. Another key historical moment we touched on was the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is widely known for banning discrimination based on race but also prohibits discrimination based on religion, national origin, and sex, particularly in employment. Our second point addressed the wage gap between men and women, especially in professions like engineering and architecture, where women earn $1,000 to $2,500 less than men. In 2023, women earned 83.6% of what men earned, with the gap being even wider for Black and Hispanic women in the U.S. We also discussed differing perspectives on aborti...

My group, which is group 2, was about gender equality and how that related to the elections that at the time were coming. First, we talked about the history of gender equality and how in the year 1919 it was proposed in Congress and ratified in 1920 which gave women the right to vote this came to fruition because of people like Susan B. Anthony who fought for women's suffrage for 40 years. Another key moment in history is the Civil Rights of 1964 which is popular for prohibiting discrimination based on race. However, most people do not know it prohibits discrimination based on religion, national origin, and sex from things like employment. The second point we covered was the disparity between income for men versus women, in jobs like engineering and architecture there was a gap between 1,000-2,500-dollar gap between men and women. Also, in 2023 earned 83.6% of what men earned that year and the pay gap is even greater for black and Hispanic women in the United States. Our third poi...

Hence came forth the day of presenting, our topics revolved around gender equality to motivate our classmates and people to vote. We use our presentations to demonstrate how voting can leave a significant impact on our lives and why it is important that we do it. Despite knowing how important it is, everyone around you pressures you to do so it does not really feel like an option but rather an obligation. Our group consisted of two main topics, abortion, and salary/income. If I am being honest, I fail to comprehend how abortion rights for women have anything related with gender equality as that topic seemed to be more inclined into a female focus. Sam, Carlos, and I focused on the income aspect of women vs. men, I used the working environment while Sam and Carlos focused on the sports.                Group #4 were the first to present on the first day, they taught the Electorate and Election process involved in the voting events. During elections,...

Reflection 2 When talking about the “Elections Matter” project, I believe every group did an amazing job at presenting and giving the audience a great demonstration and preview of what they were talking about. I learned a lot of new things about the elections and the different sides and points of view of what was going on. This made me realize how important voting is when you know what is going on and how easily things can change if you don't vote for what or who you think is right. Throughout the course of the project, significant improvements were made in presentation skills. At the beginning, many of us were apprehensive about speaking in front of an audience, often relying on written notes and devices to guide on what we were talking about. However, by the end of the project, the ability to present without relying on written materials and engage directly with the audience was a marked improvement. Although I am partially new to this class, I am so thankful for my group for he...

Reflection 2  When reflecting on the “Elections Matter” project, I can only demonstrate how proud I am of how each group portrayed and got their message across. I was able to understand and learn new things about the elections themselves, which I before knew nothing about. This project made me realize how important voting really is, and how we should encourage everyone we know to go and vote not only for their rights but for all. I was also able to see how much improvement there was from the first presentation we all did, in this presentation, we were not reading off our devices as much, and we were all a bit more confident when speaking to the class as a whole.  I can specifically talk about group 2 when discussing effort and dedication before the presentation since that was my group. I saw how everyone put their time into researching information, finding credible sources, and making sure our PowerPoint was well developed. We worked together as a team and got our parts done. ...

Jazmin Sierra- Reflection 1

Good morning blog, Reflecting on our first presentation/project, I am incredibly proud of my groups hard work and dedication towards this project. I was a part of Group 2, everyone in my group actively participated, was active in the group chat and completed their part on time ensuring that we were all in sync. Everything we worked on I am thrilled that it worked out perfectly and just how we wanted to. Although during the presentation I was pretty shy and nervous. I was expecting everyone to be as nervous and shy as I was but they completely left me in shock with how incredibly good they were speaking and presented.   Group 1, truly showed us all how it was done during their presentation. They engaged the audience with fascinating facts and practical tips on delivering a strong presentation. They had the audience’s attention in their hand as for honestly the first group up always does since they are the ones that set the tone and give the rest of the groups the enthusiasm to pr...
