Carlos Gomez Quintero - Reflection
My group, group 2, did an amazing job with their presentation on chapters 4,6, 7, and 8. They were very informative about how your topic should be something you care about and how when you are passionate about it you instinctively put in more effort and make it more interesting for the audience, another amazing point they elaborated on is that research having evidence is super important for your presentation and having data makes it more reliable and relevant to the audience which would keep their attention on your presentation that could be with speeches or with even writing a paper on a specific topic. Also, with research you must make sure your sources are reliable that is why with your evidence you need to branch out and not just have one major reference you need multiple to have a strong presentation, and no matter what make sure it is in your own word's plagiarism. A critical point is that the abuse of AI can tarnish your presentation. You must ensure your presentation is in your own words while citing and using reliable references and giving proper credit to each one you use. With the point of using reliable sources, there are also different types of sources that you can use in your presentation like examples of your own experiences with this topic, Facts about this topic like graphs or data, and Testimony of other people's experience with your topic can help amazingly, and finally definition by analogy like metaphors and similes. There is the final and most crucial point outlining your speech. Outlining your speech is especially important because without organization you are missing important parts of your speech and have no time for the rest which is a crucial point you do not have enough time to make sure when outlining your speech, you have enough time for each section so you can properly express each one of your points.
Group 1 had amazing points and was very informational and convincing in many ways. They covered chapters 1, 2, 3, and 5. Their first point highlights the foundation of public speaking and how it evolved over the hundreds of years public speaking has been a concept in our society. For example, the five arts of public speaking are first invention which focuses on what you want to say as the speaker of your topic, an arrangement is how you organize your thoughts and ideas and the basic part of your speech, third is style how you describe certain things and your use of imagery, fourth is memory your knowledge about this topic, and the fifth art delivery how unique you are and how you use your voice your gesture and such. Having confidence in your speech is crucial being nervous is okay it’s encouraging it shows that you care and that you want to do good you can also be nervous and confident in your speech ways to show it are to have a good volume and make sure your audience can you hear you so you are clear and concise. No matter what, you will always be the audience as well, and as the audience you must listen and pay attention. You must always be mindful of the speaker and of what he says and take it slow, you can get anxious and that can be an excessively big issue and of course, block any distractions. The close point for group 1 is knowing and understanding your audience knowing their interest and if your topic is something they already know about or something they have no clue about you must structure your presentation around that fact.
Group 3 presented chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12 and the focus of their presentation is getting closer to a successful presentation. Knowing how to start and end your presentation is very important when it has a weak start it may lose the audience's interest fast and for the rest of the presentation, they zone out of course if it's too short people are going to feel disappointed that most points were breezed through, if too long people will be bored and just wished it ended already. When making a presentation usually it is on software, but most people usually do not make full use of every single program the software has to offer so for an amazing presentation familiarize yourself with every aspect of the software you are using. Visual and audio media is something you should include like video gifs or clips of certain things that can add value to your presentations, also graphs things with data can count as well. Finally, it is good to have visual or audio media, but you also know how to use it effectively to back up your topic and how to present it properly without hiccups.
The final group, group 4 finished the rest of the listed chapters, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17. Their opening point was you can use all these previous points, but the key point is that no matter what you must be persuasive with your presentation even if it's to inform you have to make your audience believe that you're giving hard facts and that you know what you're talking about. Knowing where you will present your presentation is also critical if you are far away from your audience or in a Zoom meeting there are different approaches you can take depending on the setting your presentation will take place. Depending on the type of presentation, for instance, in a group presentation, there are different things you must do like split time between each member so they can give their points out or presentations that give awards like nominations and such.
To sum everything up, when making a presentation and presenting one there are many different skills and points you need to be aware of when making one every single group had an amazing presentation that taught me many things about how to have a successful presentation.
