Haila Del Pino - Reflection 2

Reflection 2

When reflecting on the “Elections Matter” project, I can only demonstrate how proud I am of how each group portrayed and got their message across. I was able to understand and learn new things about the elections themselves, which I before knew nothing about. This project made me realize how important voting really is, and how we should encourage everyone we know to go and vote not only for their rights but for all. I was also able to see how much improvement there was from the first presentation we all did, in this presentation, we were not reading off our devices as much, and we were all a bit more confident when speaking to the class as a whole.  I can specifically talk about group 2 when discussing effort and dedication before the presentation since that was my group. I saw how everyone put their time into researching information, finding credible sources, and making sure our PowerPoint was well developed. We worked together as a team and got our parts done. I am also proud and beyond thankful for Professor Sinkoff, she is always willing to help and give us her time when needed. She is always 100% present with us in class and dedicates her time to those who need her. Words can’t explain how much she supports, encourages, and motivates us as a class.

Group 1

To begin with, I can say that I am very proud of Group 1 as a whole. They demonstrated a big change in how confident they were to speak in public since their last presentation. I can say that this time they didn’t read off of their notes and devices as much, but rather spoke loud and clearly to us as the audience. They spoke about immigration policies and even included an interview which I found very interesting. Their PowerPoint overall was very informative and well planned, they didn’t have many words which is nice, and they included lots of pictures and even videos that explained their topic a bit more in depth. They planned how they were going to present and took enough time that allowed them to present everything clearly but not necessarily go overboard. If I could give them advice I would tell them, that even though they did do much better when not reading off their notes, a bit more improvement needs to be done. There were certain team members who read directly from their notes which can be very misleading to the audience. All in all, I’m very proud of how they did and encourage them to work hard and become even better.

Group 2

When speaking about Group 2, some might think I’m biased but honestly I am just beyond proud and thankful I was able to be part of this group. I have amazing team members and an amazing team manager, they are always willing to help and work together to get our things done. We spoke about gender equality and divided certain topics amongst one another. My colleagues Melanie, Maria, and I all spoke about abortion from the pro-life, pro-choice, and middle point of view. I spoke about the middle standpoint of view, and I can say that I enjoyed every research, article, and source I read. This is not only an interesting and important topic, but a very serious one as well. All the members of my team knew what they would be talking about, and how exactly they were going to get their information across. I am happy with how everything turned out, we didn’t read off our notes but rather interacted and spoke directly to the audience. My team members Carlos and Joshua even spoke and asked the audience questions, to which the audience interacted and spoke back to them. Our PowerPoint was not full of wordy lengthy paragraphs but rather short phrases and key points, we included videos and various pictures as well. I was able to see the improvement in how confident we felt this time around speaking to the class, compared to our first presentation in which we were all just anxious and nervous. Overall my Group in my opinion did beyond good, we stayed on track with our timing, interacted with the audience, had knowledge of our topic, and informed others on gender equality without necessarily stating our personal opinions but rather in a professional manner.

Group 3 & 4

Both Group 3 & 4 performed their projects amazingly. Group 3 spoke about the election process, which they explained well and informed us how everything gets done. One individual in this group stood out to me the most, his name is Julio, when talking about the republic he mentioned Cuba and physically handed us a dollar bill from the country. I found this to be so well thought out and planned. If I could give this group a piece of advice I would as well say that they should interact a tad bit more with the audience and not read directly off their notes. Group 4 was the first group to present and let me say they met the standard very well. They spoke about education policies and included both liberals and conservative viewpoints on this topic. They didn’t say their personal opinions and thoughts on the topic which I found very respectful and professional. Their PowerPoint as well as group 3 was well formatted and eye-catching. These two groups did amazing and I can say I am very pleased and happy with how everything turned out to them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the class as a whole did beyond good. Each and every one of us did exactly what we were told to do. Now that this project is over I want to enhance the importance of voting. As Professor Sinkoff says “If you don’t vote, you lose your complaining rights” and she couldn’t be more correct.

Please go vote, I won’t tell you whom you should vote for I just tell you that you should in fact vote and your vote does count. GO VOTE
