Joshua Galvez - Reflection 2

Hence came forth the day of presenting, our topics revolved around gender equality to motivate our classmates and people to vote. We use our presentations to demonstrate how voting can leave a significant impact on our lives and why it is important that we do it. Despite knowing how important it is, everyone around you pressures you to do so it does not really feel like an option but rather an obligation. Our group consisted of two main topics, abortion, and salary/income. If I am being honest, I fail to comprehend how abortion rights for women have anything related with gender equality as that topic seemed to be more inclined into a female focus. Sam, Carlos, and I focused on the income aspect of women vs. men, I used the working environment while Sam and Carlos focused on the sports.

Group #4 were the first to present on the first day, they taught the Electorate and Election process involved in the voting events. During elections, there are multiple stages and most of the voting does not directly count to the president. A vice president is selected before the mayor choices are made with each state being allowed a certain amount of vote. The electoral process takes several days to take full effect, group 4 did an excellent to demonstrate this. Their presentation had a lot of points to show but I felt like too much info was filling up their slides as they read from their script. However, I will admit the use of videos did help clear up any confusion the audience might have about what they were teaching a bit easier.

Group #3 followed up with their presentation with the Education Process, their presentation explained how education can function when an elected candidate can control the system. To all of us education is important as it can grant equal opportunity for everyone to have the same knowledge to be applied to the real world. Our voting matters as not all families have the privileges and opportunities to take their kids to school as there are some complications that could be influenced by diversity, income, or family origin. Education, despite not teaching many of the things that we will have to face as adults, can leave a child with just enough knowledge to develop problem solving skills.

My group (#2) came up next, we discussed the gender equality roles that can be played during election day. Most of the presentation was focused on the abortion rights that can be earned when voting either for allowed or banned abortion even if that is a strong word. Being honest, abortion does not really seem much involved with the two sexes but rather mostly on the female aspect. During the abortion, they discussed the pro life, prochoice, and middle views of abortion rights. They at least managed to show how men can also have an influence in a woman's decision but according to the video, the importance or role seems small. I wanted to focus on something that was more needed for “equality” which was equal pay.

Group #1 taught the Immigration Policies and how each system allows immigrants the equal activity rights as normal US citizens do. Each immigrant will face different tests and procedures just to meet the American needs to become acceptable and then become full-fledged citizens in the next few years. They also talked about the restrictions that one may inflict when it comes to illegal immigrants as we have to deal with non-American people trying to bypass the border without any permission or security. With our voting we determine the permission given to the authorities on how to manage immigration and how the policies go.

The following week we had to present our ideas to a different class to describe the importance of voting to the audience instead of just our classmates. On my turn I was nervous, I took a deep breath, and it went so well I didn't realize how I'd barely stuttered and told everything with confidence. I have never thought I would do something so well planned as I didn't even get a script to make and read out to the audience. Everyone presented their ideas really well and we got some very positive feedback on each of our presentations that were made with our speeches.

The group leaders appreciated the effort everyone put into their presentations and directed us at how to present. Today there were less people that read their scripts to focus more on the audience to which I am impressed when talking about their section of their presentation. Each presentation will help us understand the significance of voting and why we should be mindful of what we chose to be permitted or not. Public speaking is a class preparing us mentally to speak out towards whoever we wish to persuade and the more we practice, the better we will prepare ourselves.

Overall, I am glad everything went well according to what we received, and we managed to convince a few people to vote and show the significance and importance of it. During the election, we must be mindful and aware of what we are choosing as the fate of our country is in the palm of our hands. Every vote leaves a significant opportunity to things that we want as a community, but we must be mindful that what we choose can have significant consequences. And I guess as our teacher quoted from her husband, "if you don't vote then you don't have complaining rights. These presentations were amazing in their own peculiar way, each showing a significant view and spins on their topics. I am excited to see future presentations as we progress further into the semester. The following presentations managed to capture a wider audience and keep the attention span of others longer than previously. Thinking back, we have very much improved a lot with what we do and should be proud of the changes we make that make us more interesting.
